Skills to Learn While at Home

During this “stay-at-home quarantine,” it can get pretty boring being in the house all the time. What almost every person has in common in this quarantine is having an all-access pass to the internet. The internet is full of all kinds of entertainment like Netflix, YouTube, and the infamous TikTok. There is not only entertainment but there are also all kinds of information to learn from the internet. Why not take advantage of what is in our hands and learn something new? There are many skills that can be learned that can possibly impress friends once the quarantine is over, so let’s dig in on five skills we can learn!

  1. Drawing or Painting

    • This is for those who want to get artsy! On YouTube or TikTok, there are many tutorials on becoming an artist. Many artists on social platforms love showing off their art and inspiring others to do the same. There are also many different styles of art to discover, so if one style doesn't suit your fancy, don't be afraid to try another. Just pick up a pencil or paintbrush and go for it!

  2. Learning a New Language

    • Have a country in mind that would be amazing to visit? A good skill to learn is learning a new language! This is a great way to expand knowledge of the world and the different cultures around us. Some languages are hard to learn or take time, so be patient. There are tons of resources like Duolingo and YouTube, not to mention speaking to people you know who know the language that can help!

  3. Coding

    • Interested in computer programming? Learn how to code! Coding is an excellent skill to learn for building websites and apps. Patience is needed for this, but if there is a dedication to becoming a computer expert, it is a great way to learn with the internet by our side.

  4. Storywriting/Poetry

    • Wanting to become an author someday? Guess what? You can start now! Start brainstorming ideas for stories and write them down! There are different genres of writing to explore like poetry, short stories, journaling, and many more! There are apps like Wattpad where stories can be written, published, and read by other users. Wattpad is a great way to start writing and there is even the ability to gain feedback from other aspiring authors.

  5. Cooking and Baking

    • Okay, so maybe we might have almost burned the kitchen down last time we tried to cook something, but we can learn from it. There are so many recipes and cookbooks on the internet, so let’s make good use of them! Maybe there is a food that is desired or really wanting to try? Just look it up, find the ingredients, and make it! Food Network is on your side! Learn how to use different ingredients in foods and find different tastes to satisfy those taste buds!

Impress those friends! Just remember, if there is passion then you can do it! :)
