How to stay body positive this summer (and always)

There is only a few weeks left of school meaning that summer is right around the corner. To many people that brings a smile to their faces, but for some these two treacherous words play over and over in their heads… “swimsuit season.”

In the world we live in today social media “models” are seen in just about every scroll we take. The girls have size zero waists and the guys have washboard abs. Trust me, seeing people who look like that is bound to bring your confidence down a little. Everyone has something they are insecure about, whether it be their tummy or their toes. One thing is for sure though, everyone is unique in their own way.

According to Psychology Today, over 50% of women are dissatisfied with their appearance. Men linger just around 50% for dissatisfaction with their bodies. These statistics are too high. Everyone is beautiful in their own way.

Everyday when you wake up, your body is what carries you closer to your dreams. Whether that be a teacher or a doctor or a lawyer. Your body also gives you the ability to run, walk, sing and dance whenever you please.

On days you are feeling down about yourself, make a list about the little things you love. Maybe it’s your voice or your eyes. Read this as often as you need for a little confidence boost to have a great day.

You turn into who you are around most. Sometimes that’s a good thing, but other times it could be a bad thing. To feel good about yourself, you must surround yourself with positive people. If you are around people who complain about this or that, you are bound to believe those things too.

Always remember to do something nice for yourself. This could be going to the mall and buying yourself an awesome new outfit or getting a mani pedi with someone. Let it be known you care about your body.

So, guys and gals, let’s get out there and love ourselves every season of the year. In case no one has told you today… you look great, that color is amazing on you, and you are beautiful!

I have been in newspaper for the past two years. I am also in National Honor Society, Circle of Friends, Future Business Leaders of America, and I am one of the managers for the volleyball team. I Iove everything fall from fuzzy socks to Pumpkin Spice Lattes. My top two bucket list items are to travel to all the top tourist attractions around the world, and I would also love to skydive sometime in my life!
