Columbus Track and Field Begins

On Fri, March 22, the Columbus track team had their first indoor meet at Doane University. The boys placed fifth out of nine teams, behind Omaha North, Lincoln North Star, Millard West, and Papillion-La Vista South. The girls placed fourth out of nine teams behind Papillion-La Vista South, Millard West, and Omaha North. Here are some highlights from the meet.

Running Events

Junior Joey Braash placed 5th out of 24 in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.99 seconds. Junior Douglas Davidchik placed 8th in the 3200 meter dash with a time of 10:36.75. Sophomore Trinity Tuls placed 9th out of 22nd in the 400 meter run with a time of 1.05.6. Junior Gracie Luebbe placed 9th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:50.10. The boys’ varsity 4x400 relay got 4th place, and the 4x800 relay placed 3rd. The girls’ relay got 5th in the 4x400 relay.

Field Events

Junior Nick Stoeckle placed 1st in the finals in hurdles with a time of 8.21 seconds.  He also broke Doane’s indoor meet record for the 60 meter hurdle. Josie Garrett placed 5th in the finals for 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.61 setting her personal record.

Senior Noah Brunken placed 3rd out of 18 in shot put, shooting 46-11.00, and Junior Kasten Grape placed 5th, shooting 46-00.50. Junior Abigail Gerber placed 1st out of 27 in Shot Put, shooting 41-11.75, and Senior Paige Jeffryes placed 5th out of 27, shooting 36 feet.

Sophomore Jaleigh Adams-Tuls placed 6th in high jump with a height of 4 feet and 8 inches.

Senior Derek Elton placed second in pole vault at 11 feet. Junior Jaiden Garrett placed first in pole vault at 12.7 feet. Sophomore Emma Brownlow placed 4th, and Senior Neleigh Slusarski placed 7th in pole vault.

Junior Noah Stoeckle placed 4th out of 24 in Long Jump jumping 20-00.75. Senior Sarah Micek placed 6th jumping 16-01.25, and Freshman Josie Garrett placed 7th with 15-09.75.

Sophomore Colton Buxton placed 2nd out of 15 in triple jump with 39-10.5, and Noah Stoeckle placed 5th with a distance of 38-05.00.

I am on the Diamond Dance team. I also participate in CHS 101, NHS, Student Council, Revolution, and C-club. This is my second year in newspaper. I like warm weather and traveling. My Starbucks order is a grande caramel frappuccino. I love cats and am excited for a great senior year. Go Discoverers!
