Robotics Results

The Columbus High School robotics club, led by Mr. Whitmore, went to Cross County High School in Stromsburg, Nebraska last Saturday, Nov 17. The robotics club includes three high school teams and two middle school teams. The high school team New Folder finished 23rd, Meerschweinchen finished 15th, and Something Random finished 22nd. The middle school team The Unicorns finished 21st and the team Gone Robotiking finished 9th.

Mr. Whitmore feels that the competition went solid. “I made a goal for each team to try and score at least one point in every match. All of the teams met that goal.” Throughout the competition some of the teams did have a rough time. To be prepared for the next competition Mr. Whitmore says the teams will evaluate themselves over this previous competition. They will look at what went well and what did not go as well. Whatever did not go well for the teams, they will try to fix and make better for the next competition. Mr. Whitmore would like the teams to improve on consistency throughout the day.

Sophomore, Tyler Anderson is a member of the team New Folder. Tyler’s job is being the problem fixer for his team. His goal was to try to get the robot to shoot the ball at the high flags. From the results of this competition Tyler says he is going to make sure the ball can be shot from further away. He also wants to replace the wheels so the robot can drive better in the area.

Sophomore, Jessica Reiff is a member of the team Meerschweinchen. Jessica feels that the competition went well. Jessica said “ We did have a few bugs but ended up finishing strong.” Her job in contributing to the team is being the programer and helping to build the robot. “ I want to make sure that the robot runs smoothly for the driver, sophomore, Ethan Welch.” For the next competition Jessica wants to change the main design of the robot. She would like the robot to be less Vex, the program used in robotics, and instead filled with more innovative ideas.

The next competition for the Middle and High School Robotics club will be held at Lakeview High School at 10:30 on Saturday, December 15. Good luck to all teams participating.

I am a returning staffer and extremely excited for this year! Other than Newspaper, I am involved in Cross Country, Marching Band, Swim team,  and National Honor Society. Outside of school,  I am a member of Girl Scouts, Venture Scouts, and participate in my local Youth Group. I also enjoy traveling to go spend time with my family. If  I could travel anywhere in the world I would go to Paris, France.
