The Discoverers take the win at districts

The Discoverer volleyball team played against Blair and Schuyler on Oct. 30. They won both games in straight sets, 3-0. The game against Schuyler was at 5:00 p.m., and the game against Blair began at 8:00 p.m.

The girls were ready for the challenge at sub districts, since they had worked all year for the opportunity. They played a very competitive match against the three-time defending state champions. They played vigorously and enthusiastically showing their power.

The girls reached all of their goals this season. Coach Otten states, ¨This season, we earned a conference championship, a sub-district championship, and played a competitive match against the three-time defending state champions in the district final. We had a very successful year in meeting our team goals.¨

They believed that the key to every match is having confidence in their abilities and trusting in the skills of each other. The team worked very hard to develop these skills all season.

Coach Otten was asked if there was anything that she would like to change for next year, and she replied by saying, ¨Next year isn't about changing, it's about building upon the foundation that we have already created. We have a lot of talent and athleticism returning to the varsity court. The key now will be to replace our seniors with new talent and get them as much experience and skill as possible during the off season in preparation for next year.¨

I have been part of the Newspaper staff for two years. One interesting thing about me is that I am from Cuba. My favorite t.v. shows are Riverdale, Beauty and the Beast, The Cable Girls, and The Vampire Diaries. I am involved in track and swimming. If I could travel anywhere in the world it would be Greece. :)
