Fall Activities Pep Assembly Recap

On Friday, Oct. 26, a pep assembly was held to wrap up fall activities and recognize various individuals for their accomplishments. The Columbus High band director, Mr. Peabody, used his booming voice to announce all items on the agenda for the Friday assembly. Peabody started off the show by saying adieu to the fall sports which include tootball, boys tennis, girls golf, volleyball, and cross country.

The CHS band kicked off the assembly with the school song sparking some excitement in the crowd. The CHS marching band was later recognized for earning a superior rating at their state competition. Towards the end of the assembly, the band and colorguard were willing to provide a taste of their performance and played the last movement of their show.

The Diamond Dancers also provided some entertainment with a performance. The Diamonds danced along to a mashup of Shania Twain songs while sporting their bright yellow bows to honor their teammate Trevor Lucky. Towards the end of the pep assembly, a video taken of the students was made to say hello to Trevor and Mark and wish them luck with their treatments.

In addition, a handful of choir students were acknowledged for being selected to sing the National Anthem at various state sporting events. First, Karissa Gleeson will be performing at state diving. Caitlin Hottovy was set to sing at the state golf competition. Finally, Brooke Benck, Lauren Benck, Fernando Ortiz, and Coden Prokupek will be performing at state wrestling.

In order to provide some friendly competition, students from all four grades participated in the C-town showdown. The activity played during this assembly consisted of hula hoops, hoping, and a game of chance. Some may call this activity Hoop Hop Showdown and begins with two teams on opposite sides of a line of hula hoops. One person from each side tries to hop all the way to the other side and when the two competitors meet, they have to rock paper scissors to see who gets to advance. The first team to reach the opposite side wins and at the Friday pep assembly, and the Sophomores were victorious in.

I spend my time participating in various activities such as NHS, FBLA, and swim team. Netflix and swimming are my passions as well as eating Captain Crunch for dinner. I like all genres of music but my top three choices are country, pop, and Broadway musicals. I am looking forward to another year on the CHS newspaper staff!
