October Lead Time

It’s Halloween season, and people are getting used to the cold atmosphere and spooky decorations. Sadly, we are still stuck in school. But at least we have some fun LEAD times to keep us entertained.

To get this spooky season started, why not try solving a murder mystery? Led by Mr. Hollister, students were able to use teamwork and communication to try and solve the mystery. Mr. Hollister says, “Students enjoyed being the detective in trying to solve this murder mystery.” His favorite mysteries that he has used are a bank robbery and a murder mystery.

Do you love bugs, or do they gross you out? How well do you know your insects? Get to know your bug friends better by trying to identifying insects with Ms. Coop. In this LEAD time, students were able to get a closer look and learn more information on water beetles and the lubber grasshopper. They also watched a video of a spider wrapping up a grasshopper in its web!

If you are in the Halloween spirit, try escaping out of the Haunted High School. Led by Ms. Shotkoski, students with varieties of skills were put up to the task of unlocking the box and trying to get out of the room. Ms. Shotkoski described it as “Challenging, engaging, and fun.” She says that as the team was working you were able to tell the leaders and workers apart.

Not interested in Halloween or insects...try fiction writing. In this lead time, students were able to express their creative sides through different writing prompts or their own ideas. The lead time was led by Mr. Steele. He says he is very impressed with the amount of creative writing that students have within themselves. Mr. Steele decided to start a club for fiction writing to give more time and opportunities for the students to write creatively. Mr. Steele described the lead time as ¨ What will your verse be?¨ (Dead Poets Society). This quote means how will you contribute to the world; the words you say can be more than what´s on the page.

Wanting to improve your lifting ability? Sign up for beginning weight lifting with Mr. Bubak. In this session, students got a chance to learn how to lift for the first time or continue to work on their strength. ¨They worked hard and were focused on a task. ¨ Mr. Bubak said. The goal of the session was for more kids to form an interest on weight lifting.

What grade is the best? Want to help prove that yours is better than the other three? Led by Ms. Smith, in C- Town Showdown students were placed into groups and given the challenge to complete. When you lose against someone else you are out. The last people standing in that challenge will represent your grade in a battle against the other grades at the pep rally. ¨The students enjoyed it and we had a great turnout.¨ Ms. Smith described. Ms. Smith wishes that it was better announced to the school other than on Flex Session.

Many different options are still available to sign up for. With all the new and unique options coming out each week branchout and explore something new. If you don't want to try something alone do it with a friend!

I am a returning staffer and extremely excited for this year! Other than Newspaper, I am involved in Cross Country, Marching Band, Swim team,  and National Honor Society. Outside of school,  I am a member of Girl Scouts, Venture Scouts, and participate in my local Youth Group. I also enjoy traveling to go spend time with my family. If  I could travel anywhere in the world I would go to Paris, France.
