Lead Time Updates

We are in the sixth week of school and several lead time options have already passed. Here are just some of the many options that students enjoyed participating in this past week.

One lead time students enjoyed was participating in instant challenges with Ms. Noonan. Instant challenges are quick, fun, and easy. They offer options for creativity and teamwork skills. Ms. Noonan described the lead time as a “creative chaos”.

Another lead time option that students enjoyed was reading books to kindergarteners at Lost Creek Elementary school. The lead time was led by Ms. Roberts. She feels that reading aloud is a great fluency skill that everyone should be able to do well. Students love signing up for this lead time because they get to work with little kids and have fun listening to their stories.

BINGO!!! Who does not love a good game of bingo? Led by Ms. Sprunk, this lead time was something easy and fun for all students to enjoy. Ms. Sprunk felt that it went well and everyone had fun participating. Some lucky people even got candy if they won. Ms. Sprunk is wanting to find and online version to make it easier to project to the students.

If you are feeling more creative, try one of the art lead times. Ms. Stodola led a lead time creating tissue paper suncatchers. Students got to experience a new form of art and learn about the color wheel. “It was very relaxing and filled up the time period perfectly,” Stodola said.

Something neat to experience would be welding a trailer back together with Mr.Dodson. This was the first time he has done this lead time before and he felt that it went very well. The students got the chance experience something different. They were able to help out someone with a warped trailer in just two to three days.

A final option that you could have chosen was building clay boats with Mr.Bills. This lead time lets students learn about buoyancy and density in a fun way. In the lead time students were given a ball of clay and got to form it into any shape that they wanted. They then floated the clay on water and added pennies to see how much there creation was able to hold. Students enjoyed participating in the lead time because it was a hands on experience.

There are so many weeks of school left to go. Branch out to something different during lead time and maybe try one of these options. But be quick. The popular ones are gone in a blink of an eye. Hurry, go sign up now!

I am a returning staffer and extremely excited for this year! Other than Newspaper, I am involved in Cross Country, Marching Band, Swim team,  and National Honor Society. Outside of school,  I am a member of Girl Scouts, Venture Scouts, and participate in my local Youth Group. I also enjoy traveling to go spend time with my family. If  I could travel anywhere in the world I would go to Paris, France.
