"The time is always right to do what is right."- Martin Luther King Jr.

In honor of February being Black History Month, I decided to use this inspiring quote from Martin Luther King Jr. He spoke these words in a speech to Oberlin students in 1964, concerned about the upcoming presidential election. He knew that it had been a chaotic year in American history, with riots in at least six American cities and the murder of three civil rights workers in Mississippi.

I love this quote because it holds people accountable to always do and speak up for what they think is right. I believe that if people witness injustice, they should always speak out even if they are afraid, no matter what the consequences could be.

Speaking up in times of injustice helps to further our society. The voice of just one individual will inspire others to speak up. That is how a movement is created. This country was built on people protesting and using their voices to point out inequality and unfairness. For example, women and people of color would not have the right to vote if people had not spoken up and protested.

Change happens when a group of people speak up. If people do not stand up for what is right, change can never truly happen. I believe that this quote from Martin Luther King is so important and still extremely relevant today.
