Military Program Turning Students into STARS!

Senior at Greater Johnstown High School, Calvin Taylor was sworn into the U.S. Air Force February 1st in the school auditorium. Many Sargents from the army came in to speak with students who decided to join the ceremony.

LT. Brittany Wooten  gave her speech about the positive impact the military had on her life.

"I wanted to get rid of all the negativity around me, and in order to feel in charge again, I decided to join the military." Wooten opened up, personally connecting with students.  "Everything in my life told me I wasn't good enough until I was looked in my eyes [in the military] and told that I was. And now, I hope you hear me."

Wooten helped to encourage students to become interactive with the newly launched STAR program, a leadership program, facilitated by military mentors, which offers many opportunities by untapping the potential of those with a will to change their lives too.

"The program offers a lot of options," new recruit, Taylor said. "It's more than just fighting a war. There are so many good jobs, and education, and they'll even pay your tuition."

Each day, more students are unleashing new paths for themselves by taking the opportunities that Greater Johnstown's STAR program offers.
