FUNding

  •           Have you ever been behind the scenes at Greater Johnstown High School? GJHS strives to be well-known for not only our extra-curricular activities, but also our individuality.
  •           Johnstown offers a variety of activities for students to take part in such as sports programs, Interact Club, Key club and a wide variety of vocational programs.  Students come together each year to help improve these programs, but it's not as easy as it sounds. Many programs give more than they receive.
  •           Johnstown's journalism staff for example, consisting of 46 students and run by teacher Tracey King, raises money each year to produce funds for the class. Events such as bake sales during school lunches help the group work together to raise money.
  •           Fundraisers each year are sponsored by Interact and Key Club members from all grades, taking part to help better the programs, as well.

Miles Hill-Cashaw, current Interact member, says the organization helps fund themselves through selling Yankee Candles and candy each year, for example. "Interact Club gets me out of the house," Miles exclaims with a chuckle.

Although it takes a lot of work and money to provide these programs and self-fund them, it's worth it. Being involved in clubs and activities may be a responsibility, but most importantly it can be FUN!
