Movies That Are Totally Worth Watching

Last year, there were several movies released on all types of platforms, such as streaming websites and movie theaters. However, unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, not all people were able to see the best movies of 2021. We at Anchor News are here to help. Here are the top movies you might have missed throughout 2021, as well as some of the upcoming movies of 2022 you have to watch!

A few months into 2021, a long-awaited action movie was finally released; an epic battle between two monsters: “Godzilla vs Kong”. As you may have already guessed, this movie revolves around the two monstrous kaiju fighting for dominance, but they are not the only two at each others’ throats. Throughout the movie, the people in this world are trying to stop the two monsters from fighting and trying to stop an organization that is conducting experiments and creating weapons to destroy the two colossi. As the movie goes on, it gets better and better has scads of plot twists and surprises take place leading up to its grand finale.  A definite must-see.

“Godzilla vs Kong” wasn’t the only monster movie film of last year.  Disney, not well-known for its monster or disaster flicks, also released a monster movie later that summer. Unlike our last monster film, “Luca” was a heartwarming, coming-of-age movie surrounding the titular young sea monster. In this Disney film, Luca learns to come out of his shell as he cautiously explores a human town full of adventure with his new friends. If you already subscribe to Disney+, you won’t regret the time it takes to watch this feature.

A more recent movie that has come out and completely blown away all its competition is the movie “Free Guy.” This movie was released on August 13, 2021; it’s a video game action movie starring the famous Ryan Reynolds. Unlike several other video game movies, “Free Guy” is its own movie with an original game and storyline revolving around a non-playable character who becomes much more than what he was created to be. Ryan Reynolds, starring as the main character Guy, ends up on a mission to save his video game world as he falls in love with a player in the game. In the real world, the creators of the game end up needing Guy’s help to save the game from a corrupt business owner who has stolen their game’s code and is now trying to shut it down. While video game movies haven’t always been universally adored, this one is totally worth watching.

Next up is the Disney musical movie everyone knows and loves, and if you haven’t watched it already, you might as well have been living in the shadows with Bruno. The movie “Encanto” was released on November 24, 2021, creating one of the most played soundtracks of 2021. “Encanto” revolves around Mirabel Madrigal, her magical family, and their magical house as she discovers the truth about her family’s past.  With their family’s magic in danger, Mirabel does everything she can to save her family’s miracle and their gifts. This movie you definitely cannot miss; the songs, such as “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” and with the magnificent animation will leave you lost in the magic of this amazing tale.

Nearing the end of 2021, a spectacular movie hit theaters on December 17, 2021. This is the movie everyone was anticipating, especially all the Marvel fans. “Spider-Man No Way Home,” came out making a huge impact on the MCU storyline.  Starring the well-known Tom Holland as Peter Parker, this movie is perfect for all superheroes and action movie lovers. If you’re not that big of a fan of the new Spider-Man movies, don’t feel let down. In this movie, you will be seeing some familiar faces from past Spider-Man movies as well. Throughout this movie, Peter Parker not only endures hardships and learns what it truly means to be a hero, but he learns about making sacrifices and putting others above himself. Make sure you don’t miss out on the most beloved superhero film of the year!

Finally, the biggest movie so far of this calendar year is, without a doubt “The Batman.” Personally, I think that this movie has been one of the best Batman movies so far. This time around, they gave Batman a whole new look; instead of the several past Batman actors, Robin Pattinson plays Batman. Along with another character, Cat Woman, Batman faces the Riddler in a mystery murder case that seems to be targeting all the political leaders of Gotham City. The eerie setting and plot twists throughout the storyline really give a new effect to the movie, unlike all the other past Batman movies. Luckily for you, this movie is still in theaters right now, since it came out last Thursday on March 4, 2022.
