Club of the Week - Bionic

When times get difficult and you feel stressed, alone, or sad, there is a club at Columbus High School that can help you with that. The BIONIC Club is a program at Columbus High School that helps students who are experiencing difficulties in their lives.

Mrs. Loeffelholz is the head of the BIONIC club, overseeing all the students and activities within the club itself. BIONIC Club stands for “Believe It Or Not, I Care.”  The club started in Colorado for those in need after the Columbine shooting.

The BIONIC Club was started at Columbus High School because administrators saw this program providing something different than any other club in the school. This was the first year for the group whose primary goal is to help others in difficult situations. The BIONIC Club is currently figuring out how to function and plan future events. The Club’s current obstacle is their funding to support their activities.

Another function of the BIONIC Club is to perform acts of kindness for any staff member or student that is experiencing difficulties in their lives. The group focuses on many situations such as sending encouragement to other schools that have experienced a traumatic event, writing cards for any student or staff member experiencing an extended hospital stay, and helping those mourning a recent death in their family. These examples are what make the BIONIC Club unique compared to other programs in the school.

The main focus for the BIONIC Club this year is to accommodate new transfer students by organizing activities to involve the members of the club with the new students. The members of the club are responsible for working together with their peers in their grade level to plan and do fun activities for the new students to feel more comfortable at CHS.

Anyone can join the BIONIC Club after attending Columbus High School for a semester. The club meets every Friday in the morning during homeroom.
