Club of the week - FBLA

What do former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman, Miss Teen USA 2000 Jillian Perry and former First Lady Pat Nixon have in common? They were all members of Future Business Leaders of America!  The Columbus High School chapter of FBLA is run by Mrs. Tunik and its officers. FBLA participates in many fundraisers and service projects. They learn many valuable skills, lessons and build a sense of community.

FBLA is currently working on a food drive which is a competition between all the grade levels to collect as much food as they can to donate to Platte County Food Pantry this Thanksgiving.  FBLA cares about the furry citizens of Columbus as well.  Members will resume the tradition of making crate blankets for Paws & Claws for the annual FBLA holiday get-together and December meeting. The officers have brought back recycling bins for the school and are collaborating with new and different companies for future fundraisers this year.

In an interview, Mrs.Tunick said, “We believe strongly in helping our school and community while developing leadership skills.” FBLA participates in as many fundraisers and service projects as they can for exactly this purpose.

FBLA’s Reporter and Secretary Riley Kohles added, “FBLA, to me, is a great way to feed my knowledge craving brain, to socialize and to get out of my comfort zone. It is genuinely so much fun and provides a great opportunity to meet new people and determine what specialties you have and what you want to do with your future.” Fellow FBLAer Kaileigh Delano emphasized “FBLA is a great opportunity to get to know students I wouldn’t know otherwise. FBLA is also such a great learning experience for those who are in it!”

Many aspects of FBLA seem new this year for the students, especially due to last year’s interruptions from COVID 19. The new members are getting the experience that last year’s members didn’t, meaning there’s a considerable novelty to this year’s adventures. In spite of the challenges that come with the unknown, FBLA is thriving.

Needless to say, FBLA certainly has a substantial impact on the school and community.  If you or someone you know is interested in joining FBLA, contact Mrs. Tunik and explore your options.
