She Said She Said: 2020 was More Bad than Good

2020 is officially over, thank goodness! It was a year for the books - the kind of books that we will leave on the shelf and never open up again because it was that awful. Some people might say, “Hey, it wasn’t all bad.” And to those people, we say, “Yeah, it was!” So if you’re looking for a Debby downer, this is the one for you. Here is a list of some pretty bad stuff that happened in 2020.

Australian Fires: 2020 decided to start its year with devastating Australian bushfires. In this tragedy, nearly three billion animals were killed. In total there were more than 15,000 fries across every Australian state.

Kobe and Gianna Bryant’s Death: On January 26, 2020, A brutal helicopter accident took place. In this helicopter was famous basketball player Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna. They were both extremely well-loved, so this one was like a stab to the heart.

WW3...or not: On January 3, 2020, Trump ordered a drone strike to kill Iranian General, Qasem Soleimani. Due to this, Iran launched ballistic missiles at two military bases in Iraq, killing American soldiers. After these incidents, the world was fearful of a third World War. Luckily, we saw the best in this situation. There was no further violence and there was definitely not a war. 2020 decided to spare us.

Coronavirus Outbreak: COVID19 took the world by storm. Schools and businesses were shut down. People were required to stay home and masks were mandated. There have been almost two million deaths worldwide. However, things are starting to look up with the vaccine being released and given to people.

Lockdown Protests: Due to businesses and schools shutting down, some Americans were unhappy. They decided to head to the streets and protest for the lockdown to be lifted. They blocked the roads to hospitals, not allowing nurses to go to work.

The Killing of George Floyd: On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was wrongfully killed by four Minneapolis police officers. The officers seemed to face no consequences after the murder, this sent a wave of anger and sadness throughout America. Protests and riots took place until finally the officers were arrested.

RBG Death: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died on September 18, 2020. She was a powerful woman who left a huge impact on America. She will be missed dearly.

This year was full of sickness, anger, and grief. Millions of people died due to COVID, we saw firsthand the violence the black community faces, and we lost very influential people. Yes, there were some good parts to 2020, but any 365 day period will have those. However, when you counterbalance those few good things with the frightful disregard for other people, the ignorance of science, and the tragic deaths last year brought, the bad of 2020 far outweighed the good. Overall, this past year was awful, and I think many agree with me when I say I look forward to never looking back at 2020.
