I have worked on my writing since I was four years old. It started with my attempting to write songs because I wanted to be the next “Hannah Montana.” As I grew older, I realized that I was horrible at writing songs.
As a pastime, I started reading books since I wanted to be more like my mom. The more I read, the more ideas I got for my own stories. That is how it all started. I started writing short stories and as my emotions matured, I started writing poems.
Every year teachers approach me with the possibility of poetry contests and this year, I entered the Appelley Publishing poetry contest. After a month or so, I received a letter from the company. I didn’t think anything of it and just figured it was something about the contest. When I opened the letter, I realized that that wasn’t it at all! It was the company asking if they could include my poem in a collection called the “Rising Stars Collection.” The book includes poems from each grade section.
This week I finally got my copy of the book. It was exhilarating to see something that came from my brain and was now put in print for others to see. Being published is such a rare thing, and it’s amazing to see that I have achieved that.
