The Good Doctor is now in its second season, airing every Monday at 10 p.m. The show is about about St. Bonaventure Hospital 's new surgical resident who has Autism and Savant Syndrome. Autism is when someone struggles with situations involving social skills, and Savant Syndrome is a rare condition where someone with many mental disabilities excels to the point of genius level in things like art or fact retention.
Dr. Murphy is the character in The Good Doctor, and he excels in areas of rapid calculation, artistic ability, and map making, all complex thinking that makes for a fine surgical doctor. However, even though Murphy is extremely smart, he lacks social interactions skills. He has to adapt to every new environment. The show clearly depicts the life of those with autism, including social reactions to a doctor with autism by both patients and his colleagues. It also focuses on his life outside of his work, examining his morning routine, love interests, and his problems making friends.
The show then takes things a step further by adding competition between Murphy and his fellow residents. All are competing for the same position, and only a select few will make it. Viewers must watch to find out if Dr. Murphy can be nothing less than perfect.
