Taylor Swift: A Thoughtful Look at Her Albums and Influence

Fans (also known as “Swifties”) are very excited about a new tour announced for 2023, Taylor Swift’s "The Eras Tour." Taylor Swift has been popular for years, swinging between multiple musical genres during her career. She has released 10 studio albums and five re-recordings. Most people can recognize at least one of her songs, and fans continue to enjoy her music. You do not have to be a Swiftie to like Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift's first album Taylor Swift, came out on October 24, 2006. Although I’m not a huge fan of country, I enjoyed it. My personal favorite from is “Our Song”. It may be slightly basic, but you can’t go wrong with this song. It literally goes with almost every situation. Her teen country tracks simply did not miss and people always remember this album.

Swift's second album, Fearless, came out November 11, 2008. It still contained a more country style and was even remade in 2021, where every song was now “Taylor’s Version.” This album is simply iconic. A top pick for me is “Fifteen.” Although I am not fifteen years of age, I am a freshman so I can relate to this on a certain level.

Her next albumwas Speak Now. I am going to keep it real here: this did not give what needed to be given in terms of heart-felt songs. It was still a successful album, but it just wasn’t one of her best. This album released on October 25, 2010. Although I didn’t love it as much as I did others, this album was her first to feature all material written solely by herself. So, I do have to give some credit to her for that. “Back to December” was, in my opinion, the best song in this album. It surprised me because I wasn’t loving the rest of the album, but this song raised the standards I held for it.

Album number four for Taylor Swift returned the energy that was lost in Speak NowThis album called Red was released on October 22, 2012. This album was also re-recorded and released again on November 12, 2021.This album was more of a pop album than her others, but that didn’t change fans’ opinions about her as an artist. I really like this album, but I do not understand why people are putting it as their favorite. My favorite from this album was “All Too Wel,l” both the regular version and the longer 10-minute version. I know that this album was very popular and it was still a good album for me overall.

Now for Taylor’s 5th album, 1989. This album is a synth-pop sound and is another one of her popular albums. 1989 released on October 27, 2014. This album is definitely one of my top three favorites because she gave so much more than what was asked for and no one is upset about that. I have never heard anyone say anything bad about this album, and I cannot pick a favorite song. I absolutely love this album and I have zero complaints about the content.

Another album that did not miss was Reputation. This album released November 10, 2017. Although this may not be ranked as high as other albums, it really gives off that 1989 energy. Although not a lot of songs on this album are as popular as others, it is still a highly rated album .

Another album I think is skipped over a lot is Lover. Lover released on August 23, 2019. This album has more of a pop or electropop sound. Although I do think this album is underrated, it contains more of Taylor’s iconic songs. Unfortunately, this album also has some cringeworthy songs, but others make up for that. My favorite is “Paper Rings” and “The Man.” In fact, both might be my favorite songs by her.

The next album is called Folklore, which was released on July 24, 2020. The special thing about this album is that every song is typed in lowercase, and since others were capitalized, I'm guessing it's not an oversight. I like the song “seven.” I don’t love this album as much as others, but like I’ve said before, Taylor Swift's good songs always make up for it.

Now for Taylor’s ninth studio album, Evermore. Evermore was released on December 11, 2020. This album is not very popular, but it’s still a good album. Evermore reminds me of Folklore. I’m not going to spend a lot of time on this album because I feel the same as I do about Evermore.

The last Swift album is one of my favorite albums: Midnights. This is the most recent to come out, and it has become very popular very quickly. In fact, Taylor Swift took the top 10 spots on the Billboard Top 100 the week of its release (October 21, 2022). This album is so amazing words cannot describe it. My favorite song is “You’re On Your Own, Kid” and “Lavender Haze.”

Now that you know Taylor Swift's albums, you don't have an excuse to not listen to Taylor Swift. See why people love her music so much. Listen to her whether you like more country or more pop. Taylor has such a huge following and she is so grateful for it. So, stop sitting around and go preorder your tickets now because you need to see her perform live to get the full effect. I'll see you there!
