Child Safety Protection Month

"Never will a time come when the most marvelous recent invention is as marvelous as a newborn child."

Novembers Child safety protection month was created to raise awareness about potential dangers children of America face today.  If you are a babysitter you know that to a parent, the health and well being of their child is the most important thing. Did you know that 9.2 million children visit the emergency room every year? There are many ways to prevent these visits.

  • Children are very curious and will do anything to satisfy that feeling of curiosity, so make sure to do the following:
  •  Keeping cleaning materials and medicine out of reach and locked up could keep kids from accidental poisoning.
  • Cover all electrical outlets to prevent electrocution
  • Secure your bathroom. With wet floors and hot water, this room is one of the most dangerous rooms in the house. A child could either slip or burn themselves.
  • When putting your child in the car, make sure that the car seat is secured tightly. Car seats have been known to save countless lives. Also, never leave your child in a car alone. No matter the weather outside, your child could overheat or freeze. Even leaving them in the car momentarily could be a very dangerous situation. And though this sounds obvious, check the backseat to make sure the child is back there. Busy parents may forget.
  • Keep a recent photo ID or even a photo of your child on your phone. This will help if the child ever gets lost. And why not get your child finger printed? A child's appearance does change. Also, make sure you know where your child likes to hide or hang out with friends.

Child safety month is a time where we can all learn more about how to protect a child, or someone else's child. Remembering the things you learned here will enable you to keep your child safe. As Carl Sandburg once said, "Never will a time come when the most marvelous recent invention is as marvelous as a newborn child." KEEP THEM SAFE!
