8 Popular Desserts From Around the World That You Should Try

The world is full of many sweet treats and desserts. Here are 8 different desserts and descriptions from several countries. 

Canada's Maple taffy: 

This a Canadian classic. Canada is commonly known for its maple products. These candies are made during sap season. They are chewy and sweet. To make them, maple syrup is boiled until it reaches 234 degrees F and then it gets poured over clean snow. This makes it solidify so that the candy can be rolled onto a stick, kind of like a lollipop.

Brazil's Brigadeiro:

This dessert is similar to that of a truffle. It is made from sweetened, condensed milk, cocoa powder, and butter. These treats are soft and rich. They are typically rolled in chocolate sprinkles as well.

Mexico's Tres leches cake: 

Tres leches cake is a sponge cake that is soaked in three kinds of milk, evaporated milk, condensed milk, and cream. It is often topped with whipped cream and a cherry garnish. This cake is on the super sweet side and is rich and creamy.

France's Macarons: 

Macarons are sandwich cookies made from meringue, icing sugar, and almond flour. The filling is a type of cream, ganache, or jam. These cookies come in various flavors such as vanilla, chocolate, coffee, pistachio, strawberry and many more. They are known to be very difficult to make as well as time consuming, but worth it.

Japan's Castella: This is a popular sweet treat in Japan. It is a sponge cake that is sweetened with honey. The cake contains egg foam to help it rise. This dessert has a longer shelf life causing it to be a popular travel snack.

China's Egg Tarts: 

Egg tarts are little crusts filled with a sweet custard and is baked until golden brown. They are one of the most commonly eaten desserts in China and are found almost everywhere. They are light, sweet and best eaten while still warm.

Australia's Pavlova: 

Pavlova is a golden brown crust filled with a meringue based filling and is topped with fruit and whipped cream. It is soft and light, which makes it a great dessert to help fulfill a crave for sweets.

Egypt's Basbousa:

 This is a common dessert found in Egypt. It is a delicate cake that is soaked in a sweet syrup after it has been baked. The cake consists of semolina (a coarse flour from durum wheat), eggs, butter, coconut, and sometimes rose, orange blossom water, and it is garnished with a blanched almond. This is a lighter dessert that can still fix a sweet tooth craving.
