What is something terrifying we have all come to accept ?

The most terrifying thing that everyone, hopefully, has come to accept as a fact of life is death. And yes, death is scary; you're leaving your family, your life, and no one really knows what happens after. There's speculation but no definite answer. But death has been around since the beginning of time , and recently there has been many more terrifying things that have been accepted as a part of life. These are things that should have society as a whole questioning how much people really care.

School Shootings. School shootings have become a staple in America over the last few years. The thought that someone is so deeply messed up that they open fire on children is terrifying and despicable. At first, society was out raged. Now, when a school shooting occurs, we think with detachment, "oh... another one."

Genocides. When we hear genocide we automatically think the Holocaust. But in fact there are at least 5 genocides happening right now.  Genocide is more than mass death. It is the rape, torture, and complete dehumanization of a select group of people... and we have turned a blind eye to them because it is not happening to us.

Terrorist Threats. Terrorist threats have become a norm in America and many other countries. It has become such a norm that drills have been put in place in public buildings and children are being taught about the threat that looms overhead instead of having a carefree childhood.

Sexual assault. The idea of being abducted and then attacked sexually is one of the most terrifying things I can think of to happen someone.  As a women I have been taught to constantly look over my shoulder, constantly distrust the intentions of men. They will take me. They will hurt me. And of course, it is not exclusive to women. But this is a norm in almost every country. Rape and sexual assault happens everywhere and has become so normalized and even socially accepted that girls are taught as soon as they can walk how to protect themselves, how to keep this from happening to them. This goes as far as self mutilation in some cases.

I'm pale, I'm freckly, and I'm weirder than anyone can imagine. But in all the best ways.
