Return of 90's Fashion

We all know the saying that history tends to repeat itself. Well, this holds true for fashion and beauty as well as for life. We continuously go back to trends from the past we would never think of going back to, and back to decades considered very unique. Which decade has some of the most quirky, unique, and popular trends? The same decade that created some of the most popular movies known today for their fashion such as the movie Clueless. This decade is the 1990’s.

The 90’s created many unique trends for men as well as women that are beginning to repeat themselves in the world today. For instance, in the 90’s bomber jackets were a huge trend that young stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Slater took part in. Now the trend has become even larger, turning up in Vogue magazine for both men and women. These recreations of the past are now sold in almost every store, taking up many different styles fit for anyone. These jackets are known to be very stylish, yet at the same time are  able to keep you warm through tough weather.

An alternative from the bomber jacket that was just as popular in the past but less warm that is returning now is neon windbreakers. Putting one on would immediately make you the coolest of your friends, and the brighter the better. Will Smith’s character in The Fresh Prince was a famous fashion icon of the 90’s and he owned countless numbers of neon windbreakers. This trend has now become one of the most needed clothing items, with many celebrities and models wearing them.

In The Fresh Prince, Will Smith was also known for wearing overalls with the straps down. This trend was ablaze in the 90’s, and some guys even airbrushed their overalls to put their own touch on the trend. This was a very versatile piece. Some wore one strap, others wore both. Some wore a shirt underneath, while some went bare. This trend has taken off again and is now not restricted for just guys. Many women have taken to this trend. In fact it’s now more popular for women than men, with models such as Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid wearing them out. However, their versions are a much tighter versions than Smith’s baggy pair from the 90’s.

Most women’s fashion trends now have been borrowed from the 90’s. For example, chokers have been the craze this year for women, with me falling victim. These style pieces have been worn by Drew Barrymore and many others in the past, and they are now being worn by Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, and Kylie Jenner, who are some of the most popular celebrities today. Although the chokers were developed in the 90’s, they have definitely come a long way with many varieties for every style.

Another style that we wouldn’t think of returning is the scrunchie. Most 90’s children stars wore these in shows such as Full House and Saved By the Bell, with the fictional character and fashion icon Kelly Kapowski. Now these scrunchies are being worn by well-known celebrities such as Selena Gomez. Kelly Kapowski was also known to wear floral patterns and maintain a voluminous hairstyle, which is still trying to be recreated today by many, whether it’s for Halloween or for everyday use.

90’s fashion has been making a comeback this year with a variety of different trends for both men and women. There are numerous fashion trends that have come from this decade such as chokers, bombers jackets, and windbreakers. However with all the good things there were plenty bad that hopefully, for all our sake, will continue to stay in the 90’s where they belong, such as the very popular frosted tips, worn by Justin Timberlake, embellished jeans, and soul patches.

I was born September 21, 1999 in Columbus, Ohio. I have three brothers and growing up with my older brother led me to adopt his love for sports. I saw sports as my opening to have more conversations with my brothers and my father. I never took school seriously until entering my freshmen year of High school  where I realized high school is a pathway to bigger and better things for the future. After high school I plan on attending a four year university to start off my career in becoming a journalist.
