Album Review: Cardi B releases Invasion of Privacy

On April 6, rapper Cardi B released her studio album Invasion of Privacy. The album features 13 songs with popular guest artists such as the Migos, Kehlani, Chance the Rapper, J Balvin, 21 Savage, Bad Bunny, YG and SZA.

According to the “Guinness Book of World Records”, Cardi B surpassed Beyonce’s record for Most Simultaneous Billboard US Hot 100 entries by a female. In 2016, Beyonce set the record for 12 of her songs off of her album Lemonade. Now, Cardi B has 13 of her songs on the Hot 100 female entry chart with Invasion of Privacy.

One of my favorite songs from the album is “Get Up 10.” The lyrics in the song state “Knock me down nine times but I get up 10, look myself in the mirror, I say we gon' win.” This song is so inspirational and explains how Cardi plans on furthering her career and bettering herself everyday from her difficult beginnings in a violent relationship.

Another one of my favorite songs off the album is “Ring.” This song features singer/songwriter Kehlani and her vocal talent. The song is about leaving a toxic relationship and respecting oneself enough to know when to walk away, a common theme in a few of Cardi B’s songs, such as “Be Careful” and “Thru Your Phone.”

Even though Cardi B’s songs have explicit language and adult references, the meanings behind the songs are important and show the rapper’s humble attitude toward her future.
