Forbes 30 Under 30 list released, selected individuals shine

With over 15,000 nominations and an acceptance rate of less than 4 percent, the 2017 Forbes 30 Under 30 list highlights today’s leading innovators, changemakers and icons for society’s youth. There are lists for 20 different industries bringing the total number of honorees to 600. This means 600 creative, passionate and dedicated individuals are being celebrated for their contributions.

The industries are diverse, but no matter what industry a person is chosen for, it is still a tremendous and life changing accomplishment.

Tyler Oakley, age 27, was named on the Hollywood & Entertainment list. Oakley is a digital star, known for his YouTube videos that have been aimed at guiding young LGBT+ people and giving them a role model. Oakley’s videos have gained massive popularity in the past couple of years, and he used his fame to give advice to his viewers.

"When I was younger and still in the closet, I couldn't just Google 'coming out story' to help me articulate what I was going through," he said.

Prarthna Desai, age 27, was named on the Healthcare list for her position at “Zipline,” an organization that works with Rwanda’s healthcare system to deliver medicine via drones. Desai holds a high leadership position in the organization and has been a catalyst for the organization’s success.

“I am driven by the belief that health care is a universal right that allows people to live happier, more productive lives. Based on this, I plan to devote my career to finding ways to increase access to health care in developing countries,” said Desai.

Oakley and Desai are prime examples of the type of people who are honored each year on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
