Wellness Club supports benefits of breakfast

The Wellness Club is working to make a difference in the lives of students. With the recent push in the United States for overall health of children and adults, action needs to be taken in order to help others.

At Delaware Valley there are many different ways to stay healthy and become active. There are numerous sports teams, clubs and intermural sports open to anyone who wants to join.

The club has been pushing for more students to eat breakfast this year, either at home or in school. School breakfast is much easier to get than it once was, with students being able to purchase them in the cafeteria. Breakfast is proven to be the most important meal of the day as it is the fuel for the body until the next meal.

The president of the club, junior Kirsten Dunn says that they are working towards setting up a breakfast cart for students to purchase items from before school starts.

She stated, “Not eating breakfast to start the day is like starting a road trip with the gas on empty and not stopping to fill up until you’re halfway there. We want to raise awareness on how important breakfast is for students’ health and academics.”

Club members are also aiming to have smoothie days during lunch, a healthy twist for kids to drink supplied by the cafeteria or career foods service class. This is a plan that may not come soon, but one that they are looking to achieve in the future.
