Mary Poppins Returns, Without the Sugar

The supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Mary Poppins has returned!  On December 19th, 2018, the movie “Mary Poppins” hit theaters. The two children from the original movie, Jane and Michael, have grown up. However, it is Michael’s kids who the movie centers around as they are cared for by Mary Poppins when she returns.

So far, it has made a whopping total of $306 million in Box Office. It was rated 3.5 stars on IMDB and nominated for an Academy Award. Due to such high ratings, I went to see what all the rave was about. After watching the movie, I was underwhelmed and overall, unsatisfied. Considering “Mary Poppins” was a classic, I had great expectations for this movie. However, the songs were rather sub-par and the plot was not captivating. The film was very long, as it was a little over two hours, and there was something lacking in the film. I wanted the plot to be more captivating. Instead, I felt like the directors tried too hard to make this movie like the original one. I would have also liked to see Julie Andrews in the movie as well but they only Dick Van Dyke made an appearance. I caught myself getting bored of the movie as I constantly waited for the film to finish. Overall, I was looking for more in this film but, it did not do it justice to the original one.
