This past Friday, March 16th, Newfield High School's students and faculty did a tremendous job celebrating St. Baldrick's Day by raising awareness and money for cancer research. The event was a smashing success thanks to the myriad of donations contributed and raised by faculty, students, and community members to celebrate the spirit of St. Patricks day while supporting such a worthy cause. Moreover, the event was held by Newfield's Cosmetology department, which means that Newfield students took over when it came to shaving their peers, and even their teachers and administrators heads! The event was not only a hit around the building but was also broadcasted live on News 12 Long Island, with the help of Erin Colton.
Nevertheless, Selden's St. Baldrick's celebration wouldn't have been possible without Newfield junior and honoree Conor Wesch, who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. It was spectacular to witness the convening of students and community members to commemorate an important cause. The event wouldn't have been possible without Principal Mr. Graviano, and Event Coordinators Ms. Patinella, Ms. Ingarra, Ms. Bartinek and Ms. Zanfini. Additionally, special thanks to the shavees, donors, Newfield's General Organization, Cosmetology Department, Video Club, News 12, The NHS Administrative and custodial teams.
In total, Newfield High School raised over $25,000, and the event is still ongoing, so if you would like to donate, please click here. Also, some Middle Country teachers participated by creating their funds, featuring Mr. Weaver, Mr. Rennard, and Mrs. Ingarra. Evidently, St. Baldrick's was a great triumph, and if you missed this year, make sure to come back next year to brave the shave and rock the bald!
