No, really?! It´s National Sarcasm Month?

As we all know, October is the month notorious for it’s Halloween themed events, television specials, and gaudy halloween costumes. However, most people may not be aware of the fact that October is National Sarcastic Awareness Month, or as some may call it National Sarcasm Month. The wonder is in the air about what National Sarcasm Month is about, or why sarcasm is being acknowledged this month.

For one, sarcasm itself is looked at as a form of irony to ridicule another person’s intelligence. However, for most it is looked at as a way to expresses humor. Most people would consider themselves to be sarcastic people, and others just catch themselves being sarcastic with somebody. Most times, sarcasm can be used as a way to spice up a conversation if it so happens to get monotonous.
“I think its a another way to be funny, but some people just use it to sneak diss. Even though I consider myself to be a pretty sarcastic person,” said Kiara Boyce, senior.
If someone happens to not catch on to what someone is talking about, sarcasm could be used to ¨help¨ them understand. October provides 30 days for people to get those quick wits out to that certain someone who seems to be confused all the time. The sharp tongue required method can go far depending on how little the other person seems to get whatever is being said or whatever is being done. When Freedom students were asked their opinions on sarcasm, they felt as if it was a good use of humor to be used cautiously.

“Sarcasm is funny, but it depends on the extend you go to,” said Amia Campbell, senior.

Though sarcasm can be looked at as an offensive gesture, it is still considerably a natural instinct for those who consider themselves to be of higher intelligence, may be higher than others.
