Steven King's "IT" -- Movie Review W/Ally Hu

Originally a horror-themed novel by Stephen King, the movie re-creation of “It” hit theaters earlier this month. Fans of the novel or the “mini tv series” were eager to view the new film and opening night tickets were a boom of success.

The movie started very sweet, very homely, which quickly changed once Pennywise, the clown, arrived on screen. The movie consists of a group of kids, who are a classic group of rejects, or outcasts, who are the lively protagonists of this film. You meet a variety of different personality traits with each “loser," and no character is similar to the other. The "Losers Club” as they're later on named are consistently harassed throughout the movie, by adults, the school bullies, and then a rampaging clown that comes out every 27 years to feed off the fear of children. Throughout the movie, each loser has their breaking point. The movie is rated R, due to some emotionally heavy scenes, its use of blood and gore, and everything that came out of Richie’s mouth (played by Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things). Unlike the novel, the audience is not introduced to The Loser’s Club as adults. However, the Losers do end up facing and owning up to their fears and putting Pennywise into his place, for now. The kids then make a blood pact that if It were ever to come back, so would they, and get rid of it for good. This opens up the potential for a sequel of the movie. Overall, the movie wasn't as horrific as one would assume. It consisted of a compile of jump-scares, gory visual effects, and eerie characters and events. The movie is a good watch with friends, great with character development and provides a good laugh to ease the edge of the film.

However, due to the original assumption that the movie was going to be thrilling, we, unfortunately, have to rate this 1.5/4 stars. If you like a scary movie that will make you laugh because of the unrealistic events and characters, this is the movie for you.
