November 2020 Student of the Month

Newfield’s Student of the Month for the month of November was senior Logan Mazer, and after speaking with him this comes as no surprise. He is clearly aiming to make our community proud, with all of the work he puts in. Currently, he maintains a weighted GPA that clocks in at 101 and an unweighted GPA of 97.8. On top of his exceptional grades, Logan is involved with many clubs at school. Before the book club was ended abruptly over the summer, he had been its secretary twice, while being in Select Jazz Band and Pit Orchestra. He is also the band representative for Tri-M and his hard work in the music department has paid off. Last year he performed on clarinet for the All-State Wind Ensemble, and this year he made the All-National Concert Band on contrabass clarinet.

Outside of school and music, he is just as active in the community, with a resume that is impressive for anyone, let alone a high school senior. In the past, he has interned for both the Suffolk County Legislature and Bridget Fleming’s congressional campaign in the primaries. Over the summer he served as Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislature’s Page Program. He also worked on Steve Polgar’s campaign for the New York State Assembly as the Director of Communications and is currently holding the position of First Vice Chairman of the Brookhaven Town Young Democratic Committee while working on Johnathan Kornreich’s special election campaign for the town council and as a senior partner at Blue Dock Consulting.

He is waiting to hear back from both of his top schools, Georgetown University and George Washington University. As of now, he has only heard back from Stony Brook University, which he was accepted into. It’s apparent that no matter what school he goes to, Logan is setting himself up for success and is representing Newfield in the best way possible.
