This year the Academy Awards were a panicked warning to Hollywood and the next couple of years of the Oscars. Three years ago, there were about 29.6 million viewers. Two years ago, there were about 23.6 million viewers. This year there were about 9.85 million viewers. Oscars viewership is going down, and Hollywood relies on these Academy Awards. Not just that but the live-action movies that won major awards barely crossed 35 million in box office sales in 2021. Usually, the Academy Awards ceremonies cost $100 million, Forbes said this “$100 Million-plus: This is how much Hollywood spends on awards-season lobbying each year.”
