This announcement is for any students who would like to learn more about the United States Naval Academy as a post-secondary college option.  There will be a bus trip to visit the Academy, which is located in Annapolis Maryland on Saturday March 30th.  The  purpose of this trip is to give interested students and their parents an opportunity to see the Academy first hand, learn about the application/appointment process, and meet with local area high school graduates who are presently midshipmen at the Academy.  If you have an interest in serving your country as an officer, this is a great way to attend college for free, as a degree from the Academy is estimated to be worth approximately $400,000 for the four year program.

Check out the information sheet on Schoology if you would like to learn more!

Attention Juniors and Seniors planning on going to Prom this year:  Prom packets will be available online starting this week or you can pick up a copy from Room 209 or outside the Attendance Office.

Tickets will go on sale March 19th and 21st, and again on March 27th and 28th.  Ticket sales will take place in the small classroom in the Media Center.

Prom will take place on April 27, 2019 and will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Reading.  Along with a new venue we also have a new DJ; so come join us and make some Golden Memories.

Students who have obligations will not be allowed to purchase a ticket.  This includes any fees or obligations such as lost books, library fines, lab fees, missing forms, and time owed.  Get your obligations cleared now, and keep them clear so that you can make a “hassle-free” purchase of your prom tickets.

REMINDER:   Students will be seated at tables of ten so gather your friends and purchase your tickets AS A GROUP.

NOW OVER TO ____ WITH THE NEWS

NEWS INTRO VIDEO

----------------------------

US plane maker Boeing is facing questions after an Ethiopian Airlines 737 crash on Sunday killed all 157 people on board. It was the second crash in five months involving a 737 Max 8, and comparisons are being drawn with a Lion Air accident in Indonesia last October. In response, a number of airlines have now grounded all planes of the same model. However, experts warn it is too early to say what caused the latest disaster.

In other news,

Tesla is increasing prices of its electric cars after scaling back a store closure programme. The carmaker said the 3% price rise would not apply to the new mid-market Model 3. Earlier this month Tesla said it would close an unspecified number of stores to fund a cut in the price of the Model 3 in the US to $35,000. It will now close "about half as many" stores - making half the cost savings. The carmaker, founded by Elon Musk, said that keeping more stores open would require a rise in vehicle prices by about 3% on average worldwide.

On this day 1818 Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus was published. The book, by 21-year-old Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, is frequently called the world’s first science fiction novel. In Shelley’s tale, a scientist animates a creature constructed from dismembered corpses. The gentle, intellectually gifted creature is enormous and physically hideous. Cruelly rejected by its creator, it wanders, seeking companionship and becoming increasingly brutal as it fails to find a mate.
