IUP Choral Trip

By Isabella Malocu

Last week on Tuesday, October 9th, some members of the East Juniata Choir got the opportunity to take a trip to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I was lucky enough to be able to be one of the few who took this opportunity to travel there for the day. While we were there we had the liberty of seeing what the campus was like, to learn choral skills, techniques, and tricks, and to get the chance to hear the IUP Chorale perform. We also got the pleasure of meeting lots of new people and friends.

At the beginning of the day we were presented with t-shirts and name tags to wear throughout the day. Once this was done, we got straight to work in learning music. Our director, Mr. Baumer, introduced himself and began teaching us the music and helpful techniques in singing. After practicing for the majority of the day, the students of East Juniata, drove out to Burger King to eat supper. Here, we discussed how our day was going, what songs we were singing, and whether or not we felt ready to perform. After our dinner break, we went back on campus, practiced one final time, and performed the songs that we had learned in that day. For anyone interested in choir or vocal ensembles, I highly recommend taking a trip to IUP, and I plan on returning in the future.
