Any student interested in competing in a STEM competition?   Mrs. Brenner is looking for a team of 5 students to participate in the Governor’s STEM Challenge.  This year’s theme for the competition is “Improving Pennsylvania Through STEM.”  She is looking for creative individuals to come up with a problem in Pennsylvania and create something to solve it.  Funds are provided to make a proto-type.   We would meet afterschool every other week.   See Mrs. Brenner in Room 101 for any questions or if you are interested.

CALLING ALL 10th GRADE LEADERS! We will be selecting an EHS Sophomore to attend this year's HOBY Leadership Conference.  The conference will be held at Shippensburg University from May 16th - May 19th, 2019.  This is an AMAZING opportunity to develop leadership skills and grow to be able to positively impact our world.  In order to be considered as the selected nominee, please submit a 1-page essay to the Counseling Office by 10/25/18 on the following topic:

What does it take to be a good leader?

In what ways would you consider yourself a good leader?  In what ways do you still have room to grow?

President Donald Trump has accused climate change scientists of having a "political agenda" as he cast doubt on whether humans were responsible for the earth's rising temperatures. But Trump also said he no longer believed climate change was a hoax. The comments, made during an interview with CBS's 60 Minutes, come less than a week after climate scientists issued a final call to halt rising temperatures. The world's leading scientists agree that climate change is human-induced.

In other news,

Sears, the US retailer that that once dominated America's shopping malls, has filed for bankruptcy. Sears Holdings - which also owns Kmart - filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Monday. The company has suffered, along with many other traditional retailers, from rising online competition from firms such as Amazon. Sears has been closing stores and selling properties as it grapples with debts of more than $5 billion"

On this day in 1959 a final conference on the Antarctic Treaty convened in Washington, D.C., and, after six weeks of negotiations, the treaty was signed by 12 countries, preserving the continent for free scientific study.

In sports results, football lost to Lebanon on Friday night. On Saturday at the L-L league tournament, both the boys and girls soccer teams were unable to pull off a win and were eliminated. They will be moving into districts next.

Hey Dodge Ball fans, you’re invited to play in the 15th annual Ephrata Dodge Ball Tournament on Friday and Saturday, November 9th & 10th at the Ephrata High School. Proceeds from this event will help fight Juvenile Diabetes.
