Republicans earlier declared an FBI report had exonerated him of sexual assault allegations. But Democrats said the five-day inquiry was "incomplete" because it was limited by the White House. The Senate will hold a procedural vote on the nominee today.

Last weekend Musk agreed to step down as Tesla chairman and pay a 20 million dollar fine over tweets that he had funding to take Tesla private. The deal followed the SEC's decision to sue him for alleged securities fraud. The SEC declined to comment on Mr Musk's latest tweet.
