A cafellas: Inside look

The A cafellas is a group of 16 guys who come together to perform different styles of music. They perform at South Choir concerts, local middle schools, and community events. They meet outside of the regular school day, typically after school or during lunches.

When interviewing South’s current A cafella members many of them said that they thought of A cafellas as a “a group of guys having fun” Avery May ‘20, “a tight knit group of guys coming together through music” ‘Isaac Taylor, and a “sense of brotherhood” Braeden Dieker ‘19. Charlie Morter ‘21 joined because they thought it was a good opportunity to have fun and sing a different type of music than they’re used to singing in choir.

Many things that the A cafella members liked about the student led group is that the people that are in it are people that want to be there. Isaac Taylor ‘21 stated that one of his goals is to make the A cafellas something just as important as any other choir at South.

Some of the goals the guys have for the A cafellas is to improve the lack of communication between their student leader and peers. Tyler Parker ‘18 believes that improving punctuality for rehearsals and practicing at home will really benefit the A cafellas as a whole. Ariel Garcia-Leon ‘20 said one of his goals for the A cafellas was that he wanted them to perform to their potential.
