Saturday at Comic Con!

When I walked into the Javits Center on October 7th my first thought was “wow.” After five hours of walking around my mind still went to the word “wow”— and also “uff” because I had been walking in heeled boots for the past five hours— but mainly “wow.” From October 5th to October 8th New York Comic Con held their twelfth annual convention. This year, I got tickets for Saturday, the day that sells out the fastest. This was my experience.

Walking from Penn Station to the start of the High Line, you could already see the masses of people about the enter the Javits Center. There were waves of people in amazing costumes, wearing comic-related shirts or just simply wearing a lanyard. With the crowd of people, check in was surprisingly quick and I got in just in time for the doors of the convention to open up. Walking in, you can’t see most of the many things to do, but it still was huge. With two show rooms, the artist alley, panels and less then six hours to do it all, I had to start moving as soon as possible.

Most of my time was spent walking up and down the isle of the show rooms. There were over one thousand exhibitors to look at. Each booth was a different type of amazing compared to the rest. It ranged from jewelry inspired by certain fictional universes, to video games to books to artists. The artwork was especially fun to look at since every artist was talented and had different styles. There were multiple things to do other than walk around and view panels, ranging from escape rooms to photo opportunities. In the little time I had, I only got to enjoy one of the interactive experiences on site. In Spider-Man Homecoming, there is a scene where Peter Parker walks on his ceiling and his friend discovers him. Comic Con recreated the bedroom upside down so fans could make their own scene. I remember seeing how much detail they put into the room and how they really made it an amazing experience for fans.

The whole convention, I felt that they did so much to make sure everyone had an amazing time no matter what they came for. New York Comic Con was an incredible experience that I hope I can have again. Whether you’re a comic book fan or a television fan you should try to go to New York Comic Con at least once in your life.
