59 Dead and Over 500 Injured: Las Vegas Shooting

On Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, Stephen Paddock, 64, opened fire at 10:08 p.m. into a crowd of people going to a Country concert in Las Vegas. According to Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo who reported to CNN that the shooting was at a “progressive, successive rate” that lasted roughly nine minutes. Currently, there are 59 people dead and over 500 injured including the shooter after the event. The shooting in dubbed one of the deadliest mass shootings in modern American history.

In response to the shooting, James Aldean [the country singer that people were going to see] has postponed his future tour dates until Oct. 12 to allow people to mourn and be close with their friends and family.

President Trump responded to this event during an off-camera gaggle on Tuesday with reporters on Air Force One having an open discussion on gun control and said “At some point perhaps that will come. That’s not today.” One reporter questioned Trump on whether Paddock should be able to obtain all of those weapons to which Trump replied with discussing the subject on another day. Trump has planned to meet law enforcement regarding the Las Vegas Shooting on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

Police are currently investigating the motives behind the event and they found that Paddock had 12 rifles in his hotel suite that was outfitted with “bump stocks.” Bump stocks are devices that allow a rifle to shoot hundreds of rounds per minute. The police are also waiting to for the return of Paddock’s girlfriend who was in the Philippines at the time of the shooting for questioning. Investigators are looking to see if the event was planned prior to choosing to open fire at a country concert.
