Ellie Slama Wins State

Ellie Slama ‘17 won the girls golf state championship for the second year in a row on May 15-16. The tournament held at Emerald Valley Golf Course marked the largest lead a first place winner has had in OSAA girls golf history. Slama ended the tournament with the largest point lead in OSAA Girls Golf history to seal her second title at the state level.

Slama learned from her previous win in the tournament, and utilized the insight she gained to improve her performance during her senior season. “At State last year [2016] I competed well and learned that a bad hole does not mean a bad tournament. Sometimes you have to shake it off, keep going and fight your way back in it. This year [2017] I learned how to focus in all weather conditions, delays and circumstances. It was important for me to continue playing the best golf I could throughout the tournament.” Slama ‘17 said.

In addition to her success on the field, Slama’s experiences in golf have given her a clear vision of what she is interested in, and the social interactions that make her happy.

“High school golf has been fun. When an individual sport such as golf becomes a team sport in high school golf, it makes it interesting and much more social- which I love. I plan on playing golf at Oregon state next year and studying Kinesiology. I’m very lucky to have had four great seasons as a Saxon. The team was always supportive and upbeat.”
