Moyer Takes Gold at District Track Meet

East Juniata High School junior John Moyer won a gold medal in the 300 hurdles event at the District 4AA track championship meet at Williamsport High School on Saturday, May 20, which was the second day of the event that had begun on Thursday, May 18. In winning the event in 40.47 seconds, Moyer bettered his personal record time by nearly two seconds. The win gives him the right to participate in the PIAA state championship meet, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 26 and 27, at Shippensburg University.

Moyer had competed in the 100 hurdles competition on Thursday, but was unable to advance to further competition in that event, and at the District meet, he also competed as a member of the boys' 4x400 relay team with Carson Horning, Christian Benner and Zach Fogle. The team finished in 16th place.

Other EJ participants in the District meet included: a girls' 4x100 relay team of Makenzie McDonald, Emily Kline, Thea Neimond and Madison McDonald, who finished 11th; a girls’ 4x400 team of Kline, Neimond, Tessa Bard and Emily Wert, who finished 15th; Alyssa Hibbs and Clarye Guyer, who were both in the javelin event and finished 12th and 13th, respectively; and Garrett Gabel, who finished 16th in the boys' discus competition.

The EJ boys’ 4x100 team of Horning, Benner, Tyler Wileman and Riley Hepner suffered a disqualification at the event due to something that went wrong during a baton exchange.
