Evina Westbrook All-American Game Preview

Evina Westbrook ’17 has passed multiple milestones in her career of basketball. Some of these milestones include being named the 6A All-State Second Team in 2015, the Gatorade Girls Basketball Player for Oregon back to back years, and the Statesman Journal Mid-Valley Athlete of the year. She was also selected to go to Chile to play for the USA U18 Girls Team, and be a part of the McDonald’s All-American game for the West team, one of the biggest achievements a high school basketball player can achieve in their career.

“For a player to be selected to play in the McDonald's All-American game is one of the highest privileges for anyone to receive. To be one of 24 players to play is a great honor and Evina is the first from the Salem area to be chosen for this, which makes the honor even greater,” head coach Nick McWilliams said.

The Saxons, finishing their season in 3rd place in state with her senior season stats being 25.1 points, 5.1 assists, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.8 steals in the regular season and 26 points, 8.7 rebounds,  3 assists, and  2.7 steals per game in the state tournament. Westbrook has finished her high school basketball career with no intent of stopping. She signed her letter of intent back on Nov. 10 to play basketball at the University of Tennessee next season.

“I couldn't be prouder of Evina for her selection. She has worked hard to achieve this goal and there is nothing more rewarding for a coach to see his players reach their goals and for the team to do the same,” Coach McWilliams said.

The 16th Annual McDonald's All-American Girls Game will take place at The United Center in Chicago, Illinois on March 29 at 2 p.m. PST.
