How to Grow our Town

By Lexus Wilt

Sitting around all day and doing nothing is very boring!  Is it hard to find exciting things to do in Shanksville?  There is a way that we can solve this problem.  I think we should have more buildings in Shanksville.  There is an abundant amount of empty land in this town.  People should buy this land and build different  types of buildings. Good examples would be  a bowling alley, skating rink, or a town pool.  Also, we should build a restaurant, gas station, and grocery store such as a Giant Eagle or Sheetz.  Owners would receive a lot of money.  Recreational buildings would keep families physically fit and in shape.  Kids would be entertained and able to have a joyful time with friends and family.  We need to make more buildings, so there will be more things to do and more places to go in Shanksville.

If we build these buildings owners would make a lot of income.  Local people would be attracted to these buildings because there aren’t any close to our town.  Sheetz would make a plentiful amount of money.  This gas station would provide people with gas and it is also a store and restaurant.  Sheetz also has a bonus because they start their employees above minimum wage. According to” www.glassdoor.com”, the pay for starting workers is at least $9 an hour. This is $1.75 more than minimum wage which is $7.25 shown on “www. ncsl.org.”  Most people have to travel to different towns to get groceries or fill their cars up with gas.  Making this trip all of the time gets extremely annoying because it is a 20 minute drive.  This is about a 10 mile trip.   If we had a gas station, restaurant, and grocery store in Shanksville, we wouldn’t have to travel nearly as far.  Skating rinks and bowling alleys would also make a lot of money from families looking for something to do.  Many people come through Shanksville to see the Flight 93 Memorial; therefore, many of these people would need to get gas and stop somewhere to eat.  However, they are unable to do this.  We need more buildings.  Likewise, it will bring in more money.

We need these buildings because it will provide families and friends with something adventurous to do.  Kids are always on their ipods and phones when they could be outside in the beautiful sun.  Over 80% of the kids in my class almost always have an electronic device with them.  This is a large amount.  Both a town pool or an outdoor golf course would fix this problem.  Kids would be able to hang out with friends and have a marvelous time.  These would also be places where birthday parties or anniversaries could be held.  This would make life more interesting and more exciting.  Building these buildings will create something new and unique to do.

Another reason we should have all of these recreational buildings is because they will keep us healthy and keep our bodies  in shape.  Obesity is becoming a big problem in the world. Over 2.8 million people die every year from being overweight and obese according to www.who.int’s website. This is because children are taking in more calories than they can burn off.  Swimming, bowling, and golfing are great ways to exercise.  Swimming can burn up to 500 calories an hour, according to “caloriecount.about.com.”  These activities build up your muscles and make you stronger. They are fun ways in which everyone can become and stay healthy.

Do we need a restaurant, gas station, grocery store, and recreational buildings in Shanksville?  I think so!  Think about all of the wonderful things that it will do for this town.  It will keep us in shape, provide people with jobs, and bring in a lot of money.  Meanwhile everyone will have a good time and won’t have to travel far away for gas and groceries.   All of these building will be very helpful.  We need them in our town.  Go outside and start building!
