NYC Blackout

A massive blackout hit NYC over the weekend leaving much of the westside of Manhattan in the dark. The blackout occurred exactly 42 years to the day  after the since the Great Blackout of 1977. It  brought broadway shows and subway trains to a standstill. Even the indomitable Jennifer Lopez was forced to cancel her concert at Madison Square Garden.

Wimbledon Winners

Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer  winning the first fifth-set tiebreaker in a Wimbledon men's final, winning his fifth title at the All England Club.  This match followed the women's final where Simona Halep won her first Wimbledon title, defeating Serena Williams 6-2, 6-2 in under an hour.

Ice Raids Begin

Immigration advocates reported only a handful of arrests  in just a few cities over the weekend after families across the country braced themselves for raids by authorities expected to fan out in unison on Sunday morning across immigrant communities in major cities. Based on the Trump administration’s plan to enforce deportation orders against some 2,000 recently arrived migrants who are not eligible to remain in the country. Immigration and Custom officials said that the raids would continue over the next few weeks.
