Is There a Doctor in the House? MHS Career Day

From an operating room to to an EMT vehicle to an X-ray lab, all in one room, all in one day.  Sponsored by Northwell Health and facilitated by the Guidance Department, MHS held the first Career and Wellness Day on Tuesday, April 16th, during periods 1-9. And those were just a few of the more than 40 Career Fair stations set up in the gym, where experts in the field shared information about scores of different career opportunities in health care.  During English, students were taken to the gym and went from station to station, migrating toward areas that interested them the most (and to the tables that had food).  But the offerings were more extensive than that.  The forum also included careers in Food and Nutrition, Social Work, Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation, and Public Relations, opportunities for students to learn about so many different things.

Through Social Studies, PE, and Band, students attended presentations about a variety of health and well being topics. Some of these included Healthy Eating Habits, The Importance of Exercise, and Being Your Best Self. During the course of the day, every student attended the Career Fair and at least one of the Health and Well Being presentations.According to Ms. Fahey who spearheaded the coordination efforts, the day was far more comprehensive and inclusive than tradition Career Fairs.
