David for the Art Gallery

David was created by Rachel White during her junior year of high school. It took a week and a half to complete.  It is a realistic oil painting using grey scale colors. The painting is a portrait with a simplistic, blank background. The subject is a man who is supposed to represent the modern day version of Michelangelo's David (1504) sculpture. Based off of Renaissance art, it is more historical than contemporary. The man is shown to have ideal beauty including: dark curly hair, a powerful face structure, large lips, and sculpted brows. The base image was drawn on the canvas using the grid method; the artist will grid out the canvas and the reference photo to keep the drawing proportional when laying out the sketch. After that, it was painted using black and white oil paint.
