This I believe...

I believe life is a game.

I believe everyone wears a jersey. Going into high school there is always the recurring stereotypical friend groups that people conform to. There are the athletes, artists, drama kids, the students, queen bees, and the outsiders along with many others. You can most of the time put people to a group I personally know what people are known for whether it is a sport. But then there’s everyone else, the people who will never fit into one jersey. People judge people. This is how our society works. Over a course of a day, you can read someone. The way we take part in daily routines can be dangerous. We put our soul into a routine, we wake up and without a mask, you see true colors of a person.

Walking into high school I made a choice to wear multiple jerseys. The first, is since first grade I played softball, I then also recently added field hockey to my world. As I accepted to be a part of the team I made a commitment. During the fall, I would go to school, attend field hockey, and then rush to softball. On top of that, I choose to be in honors and I would get home at nine o’clock at night to only to have to finish homework. My body over time now feels almost lost if I don’t have something going on.  I wouldn’t choose any other way to have my fall season. People experiment to show the commitment of what jersey they would wear since you can’t just throw it away.

I believe we are playing softball every day. You are always on both offensive and defensive. On the offensive ends, you can never tell what is going to happen. Just like life, that’s the fun of it. Sure there can be bad hops but when you finally gain the confidence to face what scares it can change how you view everything. When you walk out of your house the world is basically is a giant field. There a place in time when your team of yours comes in handy. While no one might completely understand each other, at that moment in time there are no secrets. Trusting each other is key for success. Trust will not be able to be seen in all people, but for the ones, you do they are the hardest to give up on.

Defense is a completely different story. As you walk up to the plate you are in control. Like in an interview, it is one on one. You have no help, you just have instinct. I have been told for some time now that I can only do what I’m capable of. During seventh grade tryouts, I was furious with myself because of a mistake I made. I knew I couldn’t react except to finish out the play. It was one of the best moves I made. If I got upset I wouldn’t have a team behind me, nor the name I wear. As you step up to the plate you are taught to live at the moment. The moment is not driven by wild fear, but the logic that comes when the first pitch is thrown.

I believe that the other team doesn’t matter. During life, we are constantly placed against people who look down upon you. As you grow as a person you are capable of more, you can accomplish what you know to accomplish. You are constantly put down and told that you are worthless or you can’t do this. Over time if you put practice to something, you will get better. Like saying practice makes perfect, except we are faced with reality. Someone will always be bigger, better, and stronger. They won’t always win. I found that even the best competition can fall. At a tourney my team was ranked last, the second day was the elimination. We won the first game but then we had to verse top-seeded team we lost by a mer two runs. A team can within hours move from the top to the bottom.

Your team should have a bond that even if one of you aren’t feeling your greatest you bring each other up. That’s where other teams fall short they find the “best” players hoping they can rack up the score. But, you do what you love to get better and hopefully find people who love it as much as you. Sure it can help if you naturally talented at something but what you are passionate about is a force to be reckoned with.

Live like it is a game. You wear a name on your shirt, a name that you live by. There are going to be bad hops but once you learn to field them you can soar. Your team is an unstoppable force as long as you can say it’s only a game and are ready to move on.
