Oregon High School Students Stage a Walkout

Following a series of racist tweets and social media posts from current and former students, a large portion of the Oregon City High School student body recently staged a walkout to express disconnect from their hateful neighbors. The posts, which occurred on three consecutive days and originated from multiple user accounts, contained racial epithets as well as KKK and slavery references. One post contained a picture of a threatening, obscene note left on the doorstep of an African American student athlete. To the dismay of the students, rumors of a planned shooting forced the walkout to relocate to the school courtyard, an area inaccessible to the most of the media that had gathered. News crew were eventually able to speak with the students, and as word of the hateful posts has spread, pressure has begun to mount for an official reprimand of the offending parties.
