When Students Teach the Teachers: Superintendent’s Conference Day

Typically the school year starts off with speeches by administrators, information about what is new and what is different, meetings by department or by grade, etc.  But not this year.  This year two seniors, Abbey Ahamed and Miguel Velasquez, were the “opening act”, sharing with all of us the highlights of their journeys through our district.  It was incredibly inspiring, reminding everyone of the enormous importance of what we do and the influence we have.  Click the link to view the video. Miguel and Abbey Speak

I'm in my 38th year of teaching, 37 of them in Mineola.  I teach 8th and 11th grade English at the high school, and I am the adviser for the Question Mark, the high school newspaper.  I also am assistant director for the spring musical and the adviser for the Creative Writing Club.
