With the presidential election little more than a week away, the cross-party finger-pointing continues, furthered by the F.B.I. announcement that Hillary Clinton’s email server case has been re-opened. Last Friday, F.B.I. director James Comey revealed the bureau’s plans, but offered no further explanation, sending both the Clinton and Trump camps scrambling to comment. Top Democrats have now begun to accuse Comey of violating F.B.I. policy by commenting on such a confidential matter this close to election day. Donald Trump, after having spent months criticizing Comey for not pursuing the Clinton case, is now accusing Attorney General Loretta Lynch of corruption (without direct evidence), insinuating she initially closed the case in an effort to keep her job.

Four days after two consecutive earthquakes rocked central Italy, the country experienced further seismic activity, this time in an area that had already been devastated by an August quake. The most recent quake measured 6.5 on the Richter scale, qualifying it as a “strong” seismic disturbance, an event the planet typically experiences 10 to 20 times per year. 20 injuries have been reported, but no deaths, as the majority of towns in the affected area had already been emptied after last week’s quakes. Fabrizio Curcio, head of Italy’s civil protection department, indicated the country has not experienced an earthquake this large in over 35 years.

With the release of her new LP, Joanne, Lady Gaga has scored her 4###sup/sup### Billboard number one album. Projected to move 201,000 units of opening sale, Joanne is also set to be the 4###sup/sup### largest debut album of the year. With this achievement, Gaga also becomes the female artist with the most Billboard number one albums of the decade. Joanne, named after Gaga’s late aunt, sees the pop queen venture into new stylistic territory, offering light country and folk sounds that stand in stark contrast to the over-the-top disco stylings of her 2013 ARTPOP album. Gaga recently concluded an intimate tour in promotion of her new album, consisting solely of shows in dive bars across the country.
