Powderpuff Football Frenzy

On September 28, 2016, the juniors and senior girls of Shanksville-Stonycreek High School battled it out on the gridiron again for the right to be called Powder Puff Football champs.

The aim of the event is to have a friendly, competitive flag football game that everyone will remember for a lifetime. The Powderpuff game is now a yearly tradition in the fall of every year at the annual Homecoming celebration.

This year, the seniors prevailed by a score of 42-7. It was a hard fought two halves of football, but in the end, the senior girls proved too athletic and experienced for the younger junior girls.

However, the juniors still enjoyed themselves and showcased their athletic abilities in front of the parents, classmates, and the community. They played with heart and were able to keep it close for most of the game.  Next year the junior girls will have the opportunity  to beat up on the class of 2019.

The senior team of the seniors,  was led by Aaron Smith, Ryan Caton, and Will Brant were major keys in the victory. They predicted that the girls would be able to score fifty points. They were proud of how the girls prepared for the game and how motivated they were to succeed.

Aaron Smith thought that the coaching played a role in the outcome.

“High powered, aggressive coaching led to the girls’ success. I did not think anyone was selfish the whole week and that our team was evenly balanced and all the girls did a great a job,” commented offensive coordinator Smith.

Senior wideout Trista Stutzman articulated more about how well her team was able to dominate.

“The game was really enjoyable, and my team connected well throughout the week, since we are all so close. The offensive coaching was awesome and I thought that really made a difference in how well we did tonight,” shared Stutzman.

The tradition of the Shanksville Powderpuff game hopes to continue in the coming years. The coaching staff along with the senior girls give the edge to the senior class of 2019 in next years game.

Everyone had a great time and the memories that were made will last forever.
